It seems only appropriate that the first entry on a blog\u00a0belonging to the “Ministry Coordinator for Single Women” is about singleness.<\/p>\n
After all, I have been single for almost 15 years, so I should know something about dealing with\u00a0that label if nothing else.<\/p>\n
…..”So, you’ve been single how long?”\u00a0\u00a0This is said with the same inflection one uses to\u00a0ask “What is that on your face?”<\/em><\/p>\n …..”So,\u00a0why do you think you’re still single?”\u00a0I have many witty comebacks to this….none of which I’ve ever used.<\/em><\/p>\n …..I’ve had well-meaning friends tell me they were worried about me, because I’m not getting any younger.\u00a0 I guess this is preferable to “You’re no spring chicken!”<\/i><\/p>\n …..I\u2019ve had someone tell me that I was \u201creally weird\u201d for choosing not to date for five years when my kids were younger.\u00a0 Poor social skills are also “really weird”.<\/em><\/p>\n …..If\u00a0I am\u00a0being quizzed by a Christian the question almost always turns to “Do you feel called to be single?”<\/p>\n The truth is,\u00a0being single this many years has not been my goal;\u00a0following God has been.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n The\u00a0days have gone by and\u00a0the years have accumulated\u00a0while I have been living the life in front of me\u00a0and learning to depend on Him for everything.<\/p>\n Everything.<\/em><\/p>\n And He has made life\u00a0full, and sweet.<\/p>\n While I don’t feel that marriage is out of the question, until I am with someone I can share my life and faith with, I do feel called to be single – today.<\/p>\n It means, today, I take what I’ve been given –\u00a0two incredible kids, wonderful family, friends and neighbors, and a\u00a0\u00a0job that I love, \u00a0just to name a few blessings\u00a0– and I live\u00a0this life<\/em>\u00a0to the fullest today.<\/strong>\u00a0 Creating a home for my children that is full of joy and\u00a0traditions,\u00a0today.\u00a0\u00a0Having a career, today.\u00a0\u00a0Nurturing fulfilling relationships with family and friends, today. Having a church home, today.\u00a0Making plans for my future, today.\u00a0\u00a0Cultivating interests and hobbies, today.\u00a0 Basically, living all of life that there is to have outside of a marriage relationship, today.\u00a0\u00a0 And trusting\u00a0God with my heart and happiness.<\/p>\n Isn’t that what we all are called to do?<\/p>\n Honestly?\u00a0 I\u00a0believe I live a blessed life.\u00a0Our home is joyful.\u00a0 My life is fulfilling and full of love –\u00a0from friends and family and from Him.<\/p>\n I think some people look at the life of a single person and see only what is obviously missing – a spouse.\u00a0 When in reality,\u00a0“missing” a spouse isn’t a tragedy….missing out on a life with God is.<\/strong><\/p>\n I am a mother.\u00a0 A sister.\u00a0 A daughter.\u00a0 A friend.\u00a0 \u00a0A writer and speaker.\u00a0 A child of God.<\/strong><\/p>\n And I am single.<\/p>\n Not because He\u00a0hasn’t blessed me, but because He has- with this life, today<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.\u00a0 John 1:4<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n COMMENT ON IT….<\/strong><\/p>\n What about you? \u00a0How do you address others’ opinions or comments about your “single” status? \u00a0 (go to the top of the post and click on “comments”)<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" March 2012 It seems only appropriate that the first entry on a blog\u00a0belonging to the “Ministry Coordinator for Single Women” is about singleness.
